Frequently asked questions

Who was PAPA named after?

PAPA refers to Papahānaumoku, the Hawaiian goddess and mother of Earth and nature. According to Hawaiian mythology, PAPA was the creator of Hawaii (the Big Island), Maui, Oahu and Kauai. In Hawaii, PAPA is worshiped in religious ceremonies as the primordial force of creation who has the power to give life and to heal with the spirit of life-living, loving and forgiving. Here at PAPA, we keep her spirit, principles and lessons front of mind in the work we do.

Where are your plants sourced?

Most of the plants we offer are sourced as local as possible, from greenhouses as far as Florida and California. Higher end/rare plant requests are uniquely sourced on a per-client basis, and are sometimes imported. All imports come with a Phytosanitary Certificate and proper acclimation practices are followed.

What if we don’t know how to care for the plants?

General care guidelines for any plant can be found on the internet, but rarely are they suited to your specific conditions. Each client will receive a customized care plan suited to your specific plants, the condition of your tap water, your space’s humidity, temperature and sunlight levels. Along with your customized care plan, we will be there not only to install your plants, but to follow up with the proper acclimation and continued maintenance. If all else fails, we are a phone call away for continued support.

We are very confident in our system, and in you! So much that if a plant’s “time” happens to come while in our collective care, we will bring a replacement immediately.

How do you deal with pests?

We use an all natural, systemic pest, fungi and mold prevention product. Not only are your plants treated prior to entering your space, but they will have preventative nutrients running through their soil and veins.

Do you use any chemicals with the plants?

We are Sustainable Business Certified and use only certified organic products (nutrients and substrate).

What if we want a certain plant that isn’t on your website?

We will be happy to source a plant for you. Chances are we already have it in stock or accessibility to it but are not able to list it online as it is a limited quantity.
